TDK's CD-R media are rated as having a life-span of 100 years in accordance with the competitive industry standard of rating life-span at a storage temperature of 25° / 77°.
TDK's complete line of CD-R media is available in two different recording capacities and five surface choices for the ultimate in custom recording and label design. To meet the needs of a wide range of applications, TDK's full line includes CD-R74, 650 MB, 74 min. digital audio and CD-R63, 550 MB, 63 min. digital audio.
The key to TDK CD-R performance is the use of a proprietary metal-stabilized cyanine dye recording material. The sensitivity of this material makes it ideal for high-speed recording where the level of recording energy per individual time unit is reduced.
In addition, TDK has taken measures to reduce the waveform distortion that is a major factor in the generation of errors. As a result, TDK CD-R is a high-reliability medium that accurately records and plays back data under a variety of recording conditions.
Finally, because the disc rotates at the high speed of 2200 rpm in the quadruple speed mode, a higher level of mechanical characteristics are required. In order to raise the mechanical characteristics of the disc substrate, the precision of the stamper used to form the disc has been raised, and at the same time the injection molding is carried out under the most ideal set of conditions. By use of the high-precision stamper, outstanding mechanical and optical characteristics have been achieved, and a low error rate is realized on the entire diameter of the disc.
For the ultimate flexibility in custom labeling applications, TDK CD-R74 and CD-R63 discs are available with five different surface choices for permanent markers, water-based pens, silk screening, bubble jet printers, and removable paper labels.
